چکیده

Methods. One hundred ASA I and II patients were randomized to receive 1 MAC of desflurane or sevoflurane during manual ventilation or not. Anaesthesia was induced with an effect-sitecontrolled infusion of remifentanil at 2 ng ml 1 for 3 min. Patients then received propofol to induce loss of consciousness (LOC). Rocuronium (0.6 mg kg ) was given at LOC and the trachea was intubated after 90 s of manual breathing support (=baseline) with or without inhaled anaesthetics. Vital signs and bispectral index (BIS) were recorded until 10 min post-intubation to detect autonomic and arousal response.

NEUROSCIENCES AND NEUROANAESTHESIA Changes in axonal excitability of primary sensory afferents with general anaesthesia in humans

Key points † Intraoperative neuromonitoring can be affected by specific general anaesthetics. † Changes in axonal excitability of primary sensory afferents with propofol and sevoflurane were investigated using threshold tracking technique. † Both anaesthetics similarly affected nerve excitability to a small but significant extent. † Possible mechanisms include direct anaesthetic effects on neur...

NEUROSCIENCES AND NEUROANAESTHESIA Level of consciousness affects the excitability of spinal motor neurones during propofol sedation in humans

Methods. After spinal anaesthesia, sedation was achieved using a propofol target-controlled infusion (TCI) system to achieve a score of 4 on the Wilson sedation scale. The excitability of spinal motor neurones was determined by measuring the left median nerve F wave. F-wave persistence and the F/M ratio were recorded at pre-sedation as the control, during sedation, at arousal by mild physical s...

NEUROSCIENCES AND NEUROANAESTHESIA Parecoxib for analgesia after craniotomy

Methods. In a prospective double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study, we investigated the analgesic effect of a single dose of parecoxib 40 mg given at dural closure in 82 patients undergoing elective craniotomies. Remifentanil was used intraoperatively, and i.v. morphine was titrated to the requirement in the post-anaesthetic unit. On the ward, i.m. morphine 5 mg as required and regula...

NEUROSCIENCES AND NEUROANAESTHESIA Ketamine increases the frequency of electroencephalographic bicoherence peak on the a spindle area induced with propofol

Background. The reticular and thalamocortical system is known to play a prominent role in spindle wave activity, and the spindle wave is related to the sedative effects of anaesthetics. Recently, bispectral analysis of the EEG has been developed as a better method to indicate nonlinear regulation including the thalamocortical system linking to the cortical area. In the present study, in order t...

NEUROSCIENCES AND NEUROANAESTHESIA Unconscious auditory priming during surgery with propofol and nitrous oxide anaesthesia: a replication

Background. Priming during anaesthesia has been hard to replicate and the conditions under which it occurs remain poorly understood. We replicated and extended a recent study to determine whether intraoperative priming during propofol and nitrous oxide anaesthesia is a reliable phenomenon, whether it occurs due to awareness during word presentation and whether it is suppressed by a dose of fent...
